How to Choose Summer Suits That Pop.

By  |

Wearing a suit can make you feel dapper and confident most of the year, but when those warm summer months hit, that confidence can quickly fade with the onset of damp armpits and sweat stains. If you work in an office, though, the show goes on, and you’ll be expected to stick to the dress code. Want to know how to pick summer suits to deal with the harsh heat of the sweltering season? Keep reading on to find out.

Different seasons call for different fabrics.

Your typical suit is usually made of wool, which is pretty safe throughout all the year. For summer suits, though, there’s a need to switch things up a bit if you have any chance of making it through those 40-degree days.

If you do want to stick to wool, try a lighter variation of wool so that your skin can breathe through the fibres and stay cool.

Second choice, of course, is linen or cotton. Heavy, thick-weave cotton suits aren’t what you’re going for here, but a lighter blend. Don’t be afraid of linen, either! Depending on the occasion, a little wrinkling is nothing to fear, especially if the fabric keeps your dry, cool and odour-free.

Lose the bulk.

Soft tailoring is all the rage for the summer months, and for good reason! This way, you manage to get rid of all that weight that many old-fashioned suits tend to carry – shoulder pads, heavy canvas lining, and sometimes, the entire lining altogether.

If you’re a lover of this classic look, don’t be alarmed! Your soft tailored suit will still be as stylish, but won’t be such a sweatbox to wear. You’ll get the best of both worlds when it comes to look and comfort.

Light Colours.

A sucker for those neutral-colored suits? You know them well – the browns, blacks, greys…well, you’ll probably want to rethink your colour choices during the summer season. Darker colours hold more heat, as you’ve probably heard, and since feeling cooler and drier is our end goal here, it’s a no-brainer that this isn’t the way to go.

Instead, opt for lighter colours. Light grey, light blues and softer browns are perfect, if you find some that are your style.

Keeping those summer suits fresh all season long.

Your summer suits won’t stay looking good for long if you don’t treat them right.

Over-washing is just as harmful to your suit as odour is, so instead, hang your suit up near a window so that the constant circulation of fresh air will take care of any scents.

Wrap Up.

Making the summertime switch from your normal suits to summer suits doesn’t take a lot…and having a couple of summer suits added to your wardrobe is a definite plus!
