Stylish Watches for Men: 5 Essential Characteristics

By  |

Even the most stylish of men can find buying a watch an intimidating task. Men’s watches come in a huge variety of styles, colours and even materials. There are a number of things you should look for when shopping for a watch to make sure you get the perfect piece for your needs. Read on for 5 characteristics to look for when choosing a stylish men’s watch.

Stylish Watches for Men: What makes them “stylish”?

1.) An easy-to-read interface – Watches come in 2 basic styles: digital and manual. A digital watch displays the time on a small LCD or LED display. The time is written in numeric form. Manual watch faces have 2 arms and require the user to read the time. While neither style is considered superior in terms of style, the manual watch face is more of a classic and is generally the only option available in high-end watches.

When examining the interface, take into account all of the “extra” information being displayed on the face. The date, a compass and any other “extras” aren’t really necessary and can distract from the watch. If you plan to use the piece to actually tell the time, all of the extra items on the face can wind up just getting in the way.

2.) Price – While price isn’t a traditional characteristic, it is something that’s worth taking into consideration. Generally, more expensive watches are made of higher-end materials like gold or platinum. They have better mechanisms to keep the time and they last longer. If you plan to wear your watch in a harsher environment, like in an industrial setting, you may want to spend less money on a watch, even if it won’t last as long. Take into consideration where and how often you plan to wear the watch before deciding on a budget.

3.) The material used to make the case – The case of the watch is the most important part. You can always change the band, but you can’t change the case, so you should choose a watch case that you will like looking at for the foreseeable future and one that will last. The case material is usually gold or platinum in higher end watch models. Cheaper watches may be made of plastic, steel or another inexpensive material.

4.) The band – When examining a prospective watch, take a look at the band. While leather bands are popular and timeless, metal bands tend to last longer. While examining the band, check and see how difficult it would be to replace. You’ll want to be able to change the band out for something more stylish or more durable when the time comes. Sometimes, stylish watches for men will come with multiple sets of bands so you can choose the one that best matches your outfit or personality.

5.) Easy maintenance – When choosing a watch, you should take into account how difficult the maintenance will be. You’ll want a watch that won’t need a lot of work done to maintain its appearance and timekeeping abilities. If you find a watch that’s easy to use, holds time well and requires very little maintenance, grab it! Digital watches will require regular battery changes and high-end pieces can require greasing or treating of the leather. Research the model you are interested in or ask the watch retailer to find out more information on what types of maintenance you can expect.

You’re prepped.

Taking into account these 5 characteristics when looking at a potential timepiece will help you make an informed decision. There are plenty of stylish watches for men out there to choose from here (at great prices may we add), so take your time and choose a piece that works well, looks good, fits in your budget and will last for some time.
